ARCHEOLOGICAL CENTER OF CHOQUEQUIRAO

LOCATION
The  archeological  site of choquequirao, is located on the right  bank of the river Apu_
rimac, to 3104 M.  A.  S.  L. In a hillside of
the same name, near the snowy mountains
of  Ccoriwayrachma,  Salkantay.  Politically 
belongs to the district of Santa Teresa, the 
Convention Province, Department Cusco. 
 
SHORT HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
 
The  most  accepted  hypothesis  on  the  construction of Choquequirao contends that this was  between  the second half of  the fifteenth century and early decades of the sixteenth, when the Incas begin the conquest of new territories in the region Antisuyo, an area inhabited by Indians antis. Since that time was an important citadel that served not only political and social, but also economic, becoming a hub of a fluid exchange of goods between the coast and the mountains.
 
DESCRIPTION ARCHITECTURAL
 
Choquequirao covers a wide area that has placed more than 30 archaeological sites.It corresponds to an Inca citadel comprising various sectors with different duties, which communicated with the main square by pedestrian pavements.
 
The remains show that the citadel was abandoned suddenly and includes temples, houses and real popular, deposits or qolqas, kallancas, usnho ceremonial workshops, sources and channels, cultivation terraces, dormitories for mitimaes and people in transit and residence for a permanent population Farmers distributed in the following sectors:
