THE COLONIAL CHURCH

 

Like those of Checacupe and Tinta, the Quiquijana church is located way to the side of the village square. It has two inputs, one of which gives the square and the other corresponds to the facade. The mural painting plays a role in Quiquijana decorative, ie acts as a framework of some canvases and adorns niches. Notable Indian mural painter Salvador Sandoval, the same dating from the second half of the seventeenth century. On the walls of the sanctuary, there are two sets of paintings with a theme uncommon in school cusqueña: the life of the Prodigal Son and the History of Lazarus. Other categories that, according to art historians Mesa Gisbert and can be attributed to Sandoval are the Risen Christ, the Immaculate Conception and San Juan Bautista.
